Pier Photography is a small but mighty independent portrait company dedicated to excellence in all aspects of the photographic commissions we undertake. A genuine love for new ideas and photography underpins everything we do. Pier Photography is the creative vision of Philip Hartley, who has been taking photographs since he was 15 years old. Philip represents a new breed of formally trained photographers (Philip graduated with a BA Hon's Degree in Photography from Surrey Institute in 1995 at the age of 21) who are challenging the establishment and bringing new artistic vaules to the domestic wedding and portrait market.
After completing five years of training, Philip started his career in the fast-paced world of press photography where he excelled and quickly moved up the ranks. Philip still completes commissions for national newspapers and magazines, as well as comercial and artistic projects.

'I started Pier Photography because more and more people started asking me to shoot my style of image for their friends and family. The name came from relocating to Bournemouth from London. I wanted something that evoked memories of seaside and candyfloss. What started as a bit of fun has grown into a cool little image boutique and I absolutley love it. Being asked to be at the most precious moments in peoples lives is just amazing. As a photographer to just lean in and pluck a moment out of a scene that no one else has noticed is just magic. The best part is showing people the images after a shoot, people always remark " I didn't see that" and I have to gently remind them - that's why I'm there!' - Philip Hartley
